Can you use mailing lists from your address book to create attendees in iCal?

I have certain mailing groups I use on my Mac all the time (certain committees for work, for example). When I create an event that everyone in the group should be invited to, I'd like to be able to just type the group name into the attendees like I do when I'm sending email. But that doesn't seem to work, and I wind up typing each individual contact. Am I missing something, or do iCal and Address Book really not allow this?

you click on as many addresses you can find or the ones you want to go into one group mailing.
