Can you create a sub group within a group?

I would like to have separate email lists for more detailed groups within our main group. So that each group has no more than 150 in each.

No. What we have done on my group is set up separate Y! groups for specialized topics, to help reduce 'background noise' on the main group. Our main group is more than 5K members, and the more popular specialized groups are around 1K and 500 members. Both of the special groups are about as active as our main group, so it helps a lot.
